Shri Bharata Charitra (SohamJi - May 2025) - Day 3

ree

Final Session of Shri Bharata Charitra Discourse - May 25th, 2025

Dear everyone,

SohamJi concluded the topic this morning, with the un-explainable & indescribable meeting between Bhakta & Bhagwaan - Shri Bharata & Bhagwaan Rama.

Highlights from today's session:

1. Shri Bharata was constantly chanting Lord Rama's name. Through this episode, TulsidasJi shares that chanting the name of the Lord gives us the combined benefits of Puja, Dhyaana & visits to Teertha-Sthal.

2. No external person or thing is responsible for one's destiny. Just like a postman merely delivers the news- articles, beings & circumstances merely deliver what we deserve - Paapa or Punya. Pujya Gurudev's says, "Even if the postman gets transferred, you will still receive your money order."

3. SohamJi shared a valuable message for all of us who pray to God. He said it's perfectly fine to ask or pray for material things, possessions or relief from subtler emotions such as anxiety, anger, etc. - but just like Shri Bharata, we should always remember to mention the one main request in our prayer - "May my love for Bhagwaan ever increase & never decrease". This was Bharata's ONLY prayer.

4. Anger is a dangerous thing just like fire. It is a source of heat, but left uncontrolled can cause a lot of damage. From Shri Lakshmana, we learn how to control our anger and 'put it off' at the appropriate time. When angry, pay special attention to our speech & the mind. if left uncontrolled, they can help in inflaming the anger even further.

5. Due to intense guilt & sadness, Bharata comes from the backyard of Lord Rama's hut. He sees Lakshmana, Rama & Sita. Unable to even stand, he cries out "O Lord, Save me" and falls down like a stick. Hearing this, Lord Rama immediately darts towards him and embraces him.

6. Lord Rama then goes to meet everyone, starting with Mother Kaikeyi. With absolutely no hurt or ill-feeling, He tells her, "Mother - Don't worry. Everything is ok. You are not to be blamed."

7. Forgiveness is one trait highlighted in Ch. 13 of the Gita. Not forgiving someone only causes us immense harm, akin to sleeping on a bed of thorns. The best way to inculcate forgiveness is to develop a sense of oneness & love around us for everyone & everything, all the time.

8. "Nyaasi" is a trustee/custodian of the Lord's property. and the one who is an efficient Nyaasi is called a "Sann-Nyasi". This also dispels our notions about who is a "Sannyasi". If we have the right attitude towards everything & everyone around us, then we can also become Sannyasis. 😇

9. King Janaka says, "So great is Bharata that whoever listens to Bharata Charitra will never fall in Samsaara"

10. Perhaps the most important reminder from SohamJi was that "Our character & spiritual index is the average of the 5 people we meet often." This highlights the importance of Satsang.
