Children are not vessels to be filled, but lamps to be lit.

We are very excited to start another year of Chinmaya Bala Vihar® (and the many associated programs). Our session runs every year from September to May, and it's never too late to join even if classes have already begun. REGISTRATION IS OPEN NOW FOR 2023-24.

CMP programs will resume in person, starting September 17, 2023. For the convenience of the participating families, we are pleased to offer classes at THREE locations:

Monroeville location: Chinmaya Sanjeevani, 3817 Northern Pike, Monroeville PA 15146

Mars (North Hills) location: Chinmaya Amarnath, 358 Mars-Valencia Road, Mars PA 16046

McDonald (South Hills) location: South Fayette Middle School, 3700 Old Oakdale Road, McDonald, PA 15057

We started with 25 students in 2008 at one site. Over the last four years, we have had nearly 400 registered students each session. Our exponential growth has been possible by the grace of the Almighty Lord, the blessings of our Gurus, and steadfast support from Chinmaya Family members like YOU.

In response to several requests, we are continuing the registration option for adult-only registration. CMP is not just for children - we have many activities for adults. If you or a spouse is attending without any enrolled children, you will see a donation option of $200 for the year. This is a great option for adults who want to attend the adult discourse and/or participate in Yoga.

Chinmaya Program Offerings

Bala Vihar Classes

The Bala Vihar classes will be held from 10:15 am to 12 pm, every Sunday. Our Assembly, which is for the entire family, will run from 10:15 to 11 am. The children's classes will run from 11 am to 12 pm. When the kids are in their classes, parents can participate in the Parent Satsanga.

Parent Satsanga:

We believe that Spiritual growth is for the entire family and not just for the children. With that thought, we would like to make Sunday Bala Vihar a family affair, and we run a Satsanga for all the adults during the Bala Vihar class time - 11 am to 12 pm. The Parent Satsanga will consist of discussions on great texts such as Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavatam, Kathopanishad....etc.

Language Classes:

We will be offering language classes prior to the start of Bala Vihar classes every Sunday. The timings are set from 9 am to 10 am. However, some language teachers may choose to have different times (e.g. 9:15 or 9:30 am start time).

SAT (Math and English):

SAT classes run from 9:00-10:00 am. These are only for students in Grades 6-10.

Please note: Because language classes and SAT run at the same time, any given student can only sign up for either a single language or SAT. Unfortunately, it is not possible to choose multiple languages or a language and SAT.

Yogasana for Parents:

In order to make good use of the parents' time when the kids are in SAT & language classes, we will be having a Yogasana session from 9:00-10:00 am on Sundays.

Volunteer Help:

If you wish to offer your seva and volunteer in any capacity, please feel free to mention that to your Bala Vihar coordinators.

Gurudakshina (donation)

Our program is possible only because of the generous support of member families. Everyone at Chinmaya Mission of Pittsburgh is a volunteer, and no one receives any salary. However, we have to pay for rent, utilities, and supplies, to name a few expenses.

The minimum donation to participate in CMP programs is $200 Family Registration plus $100 per child per year. For example: Couple with no children: $200; Couple with one child: $300; Couple with two or more children: $400. This amounts to approximately $10/class for all family members. The donation is tax deductible. Many families in the past have generously donated significantly more, and we humbly encourage them to continue to do so. Enrolled families can participate in Bala Vihar, SAT, Language classes, Yoga class, and the Parent Satsang without any additional charge. The SAT class no longer has a separate fee.

CMP is committed to the teaching of Vedantic value to all families, regardless of financial means. Therefore, the minimum donation will be reduced or waived for ANY family that makes a request on the basis of financial constraints. Please email or contact your local administrative coordinator (Monroeville: satish@cmpittsburgh.org; North Hills: suresh_mulukutla@hotmail.com; South Hills: ganeshk76@yahoo.com)
